Imagine if you could put wonder into your life. How would that benefit and bless you and the people around you? Today’s guest, Taylor Hughes has built his life around this idea of chasing wonder. A magician, author, speaker, entertainer, and coach, Taylor talks specifically about publishing a book (especially if you’re thinking about the self-publishing route) as well as some tips and expertise around public speaking.

As a speaker and performer, Taylor does a lot of storytelling – some comedy, some magic – but it’s always about trying to connect people to this idea of wonder and what else might be out there for you in your life if you stay just present and engaged.

Taylor fell in love with magic tricks when he was seven years old and he has just become obsessed with magic since then. Over the years, when the tricks didn’t work, comedy worked itself into the show. Then his wife eventually encouraged him to show off his storytelling skills. Now, his focus isn’t on the tricks he wants to do, but on what stories Taylor wants to share.

One of the most important things you will be taking away from this episode is how you need to commit to something you’ve always wanted to do as if it’s a done deal, then work background. Whether that’s writing a book or speaking in front of everyone, it’s all about the message you want to get across. And once you get that right, all the fear and doubt will naturally fade into the background.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • Taylor’s transition from youth pastor to a magician
  • Learning how to pivot through the pandemic
  • Taking a negative situation into encouragement
  • Lessons from book writing and self-publishing
  • Average publishing timeline
  • Committing yourself to something you want to do
  • About Taylor’s first public speaking course
  • Why you should start writing down your takeaway sentence first
